1st CADFEM CAE Conference
March 3, 2008
The 1st CADFEM CAE Conference 2008 was held on February 26th, 2008 in Hyderabad, India. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary in India with an interesting and informative technical meeting covering many important topics in virtual product development. The conference was attended by a sizable number of participants from the industry and academia.
Dr.-Ing. Günter Müller, CEO of CADFEM and well known expert in the European CAE community gave a keynote lecture to begin with. He showcased the different FEA applications that CADFEM has offered to the CAE industry. This was followed up by a presentation by Markku Palantera, General Manager of Componeering Inc., where he highlighted the areas in avoiding pitfalls in composites design using ESAComp.
After a short break, there was a presentation on OptiSLang by Praveen Mokkapati, CADFEM India, which highlighted the various functionalities that it had to offer. Thereafter, A. V. Hanumatha Rao, a retired senior scientist from Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, an invited speaker, gave an insightful seminar on CAE, if it was a good supplement to manufacturing. The conclusions brought by him suggested that it is imperative for the manufacturing industry to utilize CAE for its developmental work.
After the lunch, B. S. Anand, the National Sales Manager from ANSYS India gave a historical overview of the ANSYS solutions and how it has evolved to cover the gamut of CAE applications. Next, Madhukar Chatiri, the Managing Director of CADFEM India, gave an insight to the various LS-DYNA applications ranging from crashworthiness, drop test simulations to advanced Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) and Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations. An ESAComp customer from Defense Research Electronics Laboratory (DLRL) gave an user-perspective on ESAComp and how it has been useful to them. To sum it up, Praveen Mokkapati showcased Diffpack as a problem-solving environment for the numerical modeling and simulation of PDEs.
Besides these presentations, there were stalls by ANSYS India and CADFEM setup at the venue that provided the participants with the necessary literature.
